Team Group Health had a fantastic 2011-12 season with lots of victories, highlights, laughter and memories made. We polled our team and here are the best of 2012 “awards”:
Best Race – Road:
– Olympic View Road Race
The Olympic View State Championship Road Race took place in Brady, Wash. on Saturday, April 28, and Team Group Health came out in full force with 14 riders, and secured two victories. Our very own Jadine Riley won the race, becoming the new Cat 1/2 State Champion, and Katie Poinier was crowned Cat 3 State Road Race Champion.
Other road race favorites included Walla Walla Road Race, North Shore, North Bend Crit, Volunteer Park, Baker City and the Ballard Crit.
Best race – Cyclocross:
In picking their 2011-12 favorite cyclocross race, TGHers were torn between the sandy Lake Sammamish Starcrossed course and the well-attended Woodland Park GP.
Other favorite courses included Silver Lake, Magnuson, Monroe, Enumclaw and Steilacoom.
Best race – Mountain:
TGHers overwhelmingly named the 24 Hour “Round the Clock” MTB race in Spokane, Wash. as their favorite mountain bike race on the calendar.
We had three Team Group Health teams and one solo racer compete in the 24 Hour Round the Clock mountain bike race over Memorial Day weekend, earning Top 10 finishes all around. Solo racer Kim Birgh-Pitkanen achieved a personal best of 15 laps, earning her a third place podium finish.
Other favorite races included Capitol Forest, Cookin’ in the Kettles and Stottlemeyer.
Best TGH racer:
This was a close one but State Road and Crit Champion, Jadine Riley, was named best racer on the team, followed by Katie Poinier, Anne-Marije Rook, and Liese Annex.
Best TGH teammate:
In perhaps the hardest category, the results were very close but El Presidente, LB Kregenow, was voted Best Teammate for her awesome leadership, friendliness, and the fact that she is always smiling, even during the hardest of races.
Tied for second place were Kirstin Sandaas, Anne-Marije Rook, and KT Taylor. Amanda McNabb, Marsa Daniel, Leina Tani, and Carla Brock were also nominated.
TGH had a great 2011-12 season with many things to celebrate on- and off- the bike. Most commonly mentioned highlights included:
– Getting a podium finish / best results so far
– Seeing teammates do well / helping the team / being part of a wonderful team
– Trying new disciplines/ undertaking new challenges
